From 14 to 16 November, the Policy Learning Platform is hosting a peer review together with La Réunion on the topic of mobility on islands and participatory processes

The island faces geographical challenges with only 40% of its land being suitable for development. The majority of daily commutes are reliant on personal cars, primarily along the coastal regions and hilly terrains, due to the absence of public transportation and dedicated infrastructure. Given these challenges and the island's increasing population, addressing transportation and travel-related issues is a pressing concern.

The Region Réunion, responsible for mobility and regional planning, initiated a public consultation called the Etats Généraux des Mobilités (EGM), in collaboration with the Commission Nationale du Débat Public (CNDP) to ensure proper adherence to consultation rules.

The EGM aims to enhance public awareness among Reunion island residents regarding Transport Policies and regional planning matters, provide insights into short, medium, and long-term projects, and, most importantly, solicit proposals from the community.

The peer review will focus on...
  • How can transport policies be improved?
  • How to implement public policies as a result of public consultations, following a bottom-up approach?

This event is by invite-only. The key learnings will be shared afterward.
